I was wondering if people were just hunkered down through the heat waves or if everyone is busy looking for work. So many people I know are unemployed now. Winemaking may not be on people's top ten list of things to get done now, with the unemployment mammoth on their backs. I have not noticed as much activity on other winemaking forums either. OR...maybe people are just busy processing their fruit for wine, or taking summer vacay.

I realize that this is a winemaking forum not a Political one, but have to add my two cents. This jackass has the country in such a mess from any angle, it's a wonder any one has any time at all to pursue a hobby. Everyone is working their butts off just trying to survive, and every time you turn around, there is an obstacle. You can't get any interest on a CD. , You are lucky if you can get a mortgage. Our troops are shuttled back and forth to Afghanistan, Africa, and Iraq. The border is a disaster, Unemployment is out of control. He hasn't done one thing that he promised.

"Change"? What change! I'm going back in the basement and drink all that stuff I made last spring.

Maybe it will soothe my anger.

The hope & change come in when you're sitting on the street corner begging for change & hoping someone will give you a dollar.

I'm a mean, conservative libertarian.

I don't wanna get into a political discussion either, but the current federal gubment is terrible.

Yeah, it is, but most of the problem has to do with the idiot-in-chief the current president replaced.  He pissed away a surplus and got us involved in a war of questionable necessity, with no visible end in sight.  It's going to take a long time to undo all the damage that's been done to our economy.

I have to disagree...
It is due to the fact that many of the career politicians that 'we' have chosen to govern during the last several years have pissed our livelihoods away & lined their pockets.
It has very little to do with a single man & more to do with a very corrupt set of decision-makers.
They are taking our freedoms away, in baby-steps & telling us that it's in our interest & due to our safety.
Wasteful legeslation & free love/healthcare/housing/etc.

We can't pin it on solely Democrats or Republicans & we can't say it was politician A or politician B.
There are multiple yahoos at fault & we need to get good, hard-working, honest people at the helm...
Or, we're doomed to repeat our mistakes.

I have said all I will say, about this.
On with the brewing/wine-making discussions.

I've been un/der-employed since '93. Not worth taking the risk to go B&M, not worth working for what people offer. All I have is time. But I don't waste my money buying juice.
That's a convenient excuse because I've never made wine from juice or concentrate, mainly because I never saw any without preservatives when I've looked.

There never was a surplus, there was a slight of hand in moving Social Security into the general fund. It's a common trick used by government to claim they've got spending under control in order to win them favor and it often works.

It's time we clean house from the top to bottom, insist on term limits, pitch the tree-huggers, & start making our own goods, like it used to be, no more bleeding hearts, retake our country ,& put the USA back on top, where we should be.. the coal man

Yes, career politicians are the worst thing to ever happen to this country. They're all only concerned about their own self-interest and not what's best for the country. It's all about kissing selective butts in order to get reelected.

But the point in my post was that you can't blame the shape of the country on Obama. He inherited a lot of problems which aren't going to be fixed overnight. And I'm not really an Obama fan, just a moderate Libertarian.
